PRACTICAL WORKSHOP GUIDE

How to print and assemble your poster

Follow these essential printer settings to guarantee that all tiled pages align with 100% precision.

The #1 Most Important Rule: Print at 100% Scale (Actual Size)

In your PDF viewer print dialog (Adobe Acrobat, Chrome, Apple Preview, etc.), always select “Actual Size” or set Custom Scale to 100%. Never leave “Fit to Printable Area” or “Shrink to Fit” enabled, as that will reduce each sheet slightly and make grid lines mismatch!

STEP 01

Check Printer Settings

  • Page Scaling: 100% / Actual Size
  • Paper Source: Match your paper (A4 or US Letter)
  • Quality: High / Photo for richer contrast
Pro tip: Test-print page 1 first!
STEP 02

Trim Only 2 Edges

Don’t trim all 4 borders of every page! To take advantage of the overlap tabs:

  • Cut off the left and top white margins.
  • Leave the right and bottom overlap tabs untouched as glue anchors.
Use a metal ruler & craft knife
STEP 03

Assemble Row by Row

Lay out Row 1 on a flat clean table or floor. Apply a thin line of standard glue stick or double-sided tape along the overlap tab. Align sheet #2 over sheet #1 using the printed alignment marks.

Assemble full rows first, then join rows
STEP 04

Mount on the Wall

For a durable display, mount the completed poster on foam core board, cardboard, or directly onto drywall using painter’s tape, poster adhesive putty, or poster hangers.

Heavier paper (120-160gsm) looks best

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know

Clear, honest answers about tiled printing, privacy, and poster assembly.

BlockPoster is a free online tool that automatically divides any image, illustration, or photo into multiple printable sheets of paper (such as standard A4, US Letter, A3, or US Legal). Once printed on your regular home or office desktop printer, you join and glue the tiled pages together to create a massive wall poster.
No. Your privacy is 100% respected. All image slicing, canvas rendering, and PDF compilation execute locally inside your web browser via client-side JavaScript. Your photos are never uploaded to any remote server, never saved in a database, and never shared with third parties.
Default printer software often has "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Fit" checked automatically. Because standard desktop printers have a physical border they cannot reach, "Fit to Page" shrinks each page by 3% to 6%, which alters the physical scale and prevents adjacent sheets from aligning properly. Always select “Actual Size” or manually input “100%” in the print dialog.
